The age-old Ayurvedic pathophysiology can now be understood with the help of modern Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and applied Bio-Technology. Many of the principles of Ayurveda are now completely validated in the light of modern physiology and pathological processes. Ayurvedic concepts need to be adapted in modern medical examination-processes so as to help in the identification and treatment of refractory and chronic diseases.

Ayurvedic Medicines in Emergency/Critical Care
The general perception of Ayurvedic medicines is that these are useful only in chronic health problems. While this is generally true, little is known about the fact that Ayurvedic medicines can be equally effective in the treatment of critical, emergency and life-threatening health conditions. While modern treatment and conservative hospital management is indispensable, Ayurvedic medicines, if used judicially, have the potential to improve the chances for survival and an early recovery. Medico-legal issues between the Ayurvedic physician, the patient's relatives, modern physicians and the hospital authorities need to be sorted out before Ayurvedic treatment can be instituted for such patients.

Are Currently Available Vaccines Harmful?
Over the last few decades, vaccines have shown their efficacy in preventing, reducing the severity of infection, or eradicating many infectious diseases like small pox, polio etc. However, the recent deaths of several children in different parts of India, after receiving vaccination, has cast doubts about the quality of currently available vaccines. We recently lost a brilliant professional colleague to vaccination considered necessary for International travel.
Some traditional practitioners of Ayurveda claim that they do not give vaccination to their children, but give them Ayurvedic medicines like Vacha(Acorus calamus) rubbed in Gold leaf or Suvarna Bhasma. The efficacy of such medicines in imparting immunity, needs to be scientifically studied.

Herbal Medicines - Better than Synthetic Substitutes
Currently, a fall-out of rapid industrialization and development is the gross pollution we have to face on the roads in our busy cities. A common side effect experienced by many is allergic conjunctivitis. Most eye specialists explain that the redness and watering of the eyes is because of dryness resulting from pollution. They prescribe eye-drops like "Just Tears", which are synthetic substitutes of the natural fluid in the eye membranes. However, a large number of patients have experienced that mild Ayurvedic eye-drops containing rosewater, turmeric, and other herbal medicines give better relief than these synthetic eye drops.
